Hispanic Scholarships in Georgia

Hispanic students in Georgia face challenges which are different from the struggles of their white and Asian peers. As a result, few Latino and Latina students are being admitted to and graduating from Georgia institutions of higher learning. While many are trying to close the education gaps that exist between races and socio-economic groups in the United States, there is still much work to do.

Students of color experience our education system in a different way than white and Asian students, and research shows that many schools are not doing enough to support the students of color that attend their institutions. Students of color are more likely to have come to college from poverty, a poorly performing school or other social disadvantages than their white and Asian peers. This means these students may need support to transition to college and succeed.

College can be even more challenging for students who speak English as a second or third language. Language barriers exist, even after an English language learner is considered fluent, and some skills a student may have mastered in their native language may need extra help to translate to English. All colleges and universities which serve Hispanic students, or any students who may not have the same privilege and advantages as white and Asian students, should try to provide reasonable support and accommodation for all students.

The Hispanic community in Georgia is large and diverse, and has much to offer the state, as well as the country as a whole. Insuring that all Hispanic students who want to attend college have the chance to do so, and will receive the support they need once they’re accepted, has only positive benefits for us all.

If you’re looking for a scholarship, and you are a Hispanic student, there are many resources available to help you find the best college for you, as well as the financial aid you might need to achieve your dream.
