MBA Scholarships for Women
More women than ever are entering MBA programs, but they’re still outnumbered by men. The percentage of women seeking MBA degrees has stayed rather stagnant, but new initiatives meant to draw women into the field are hoping to change the balance.
Because of the gender differences in most MBA programs, there are several organizations which work to provide funding to women pursuing an MBA. In addition to these sources, contacting the colleges or universities the student is considering may reveal special funding programs for women. Some organizations which aim to help women succeed in getting an MBA:
MBA for Women Foundation ? The MBA for Women Foundation is a not-for-profit organization which provides funding to women accepted at top MBA programs. The foundation offers both loans and scholarships.
International Federation of University Women ? The IFUW offers fellowships to select women assembled from member donations.
American Association of University Women ? The AAUW has helped over 11,000 women achieve their goals of a post-graduate degree, including many women with MBAs.
Although white women are making many strides and breaking barriers in MBA programs, women of color and women with disabilities are still under-represented in many MBA programs, and the jobs that result from earning an MBA.
Ending inequality in MBA classrooms will go a long way in helping eliminate inequality in the world. Just as elected officials should be as diverse as the population who votes for them, our business leaders should reflect the diversity of the American consumer. Helping more women who want to pursue careers in business get their feet in the door, regardless of skin color or physical ability, can only help.
Paying for higher education is a challenge, even for the most financially comfortable families and individuals. MBA programs in prestigious colleges and universities can be a sizable burden. If we want the US to compete in the global marketplace in business, we need to ensure that more people are allowed at the table.
