This scholarship was created by the Honorable Leonia J. Lloyd, in memory of her late twin sister, the Honorable Leona L. Lloyd, both '79. Both were teachers in the Detroit Public School system before they enrolled in the Law School. They became the nation's first pair of twins to serve as judges of the same court at one time. They have been known particularly for their innovative handling of criminal matters involving youths and young adults and for encouraging and assisting the young men and women of Detroit to pursue education. The award will be given to a first-year, full-time student currently involved in or holding a leadership position in the Black Law Students Association.
