The following are financial aid programs available to students who are residents of the state of Mississippi. 

Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Minority Summer Grant.

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program. Additional information will be provided with the application.

Application Deadline

March 31st

Applications available from Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Summer Academic Institute. Call (228) 872-4200.

Available to the student who:

Completes the on-line web application

Is a freshmen, sophomore, junior, or senior student at a Mississippi college or university

Is majoring in marine and environmental sciences

Is a resident of Mississippi as verified by the submission of residency documentation.

Has been admitted as a full-time student at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Summer Academic Institute

Is classified as a minority student by the registrar's office at the attending institution.

Non- residents are not eligible to apply.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

Awards may be for tuition and a stipend during the approved session. Participants may choose to attend a four week, five week or ten week program, but may only participate one summer, one session.

 

Higher Education Legislative Plan (HELP).

The primary objective of the program is to provide tuition assistance to qualified students whose financial need, as demonstrated by federal student aid eligibility, will not be met with gift aid from other sources.

Application Deadline: March 31st of each year

Supporting Documents Deadline: April 30th of each year

Freshman HELP applicants must:

Must apply within one year of high school graduation

Be a resident of Mississippi for two years prior to application deadline date

Demonstrate need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Be accepted and enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work at an eligible Mississippi institution. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours.

Document an average family adjusted gross income of $36,500 or less over the prior two years. A higher average adjusted gross income may be applicable depending on family demographics.

Have a high school cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Have scored a minimum of 20 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state aid eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

Have completed the specific high school core curriculum

Complete and return household verification form (used to document additional siblings under the age of 21)

Have completed the online web application, a valid student aid report (SAR) by completing the FAFSA and all supporting documents on file by April 30th. Award notifications will be mailed by August 1st.

New HELP applicants (in college) must:

Must apply within one year of high school graduation

Be a resident of Mississippi for two years prior to application deadline date of March 31st

Document an average family adjusted gross income of $36,500 or less over the prior two years. A higher average adjusted gross income may be applicable depending on family demographics.

Demonstrate need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Have minimum cumulative college grade point average of 2.5

Attend full-time in undergraduate course work at an eligible Mississippi institution. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours.

Be in good standing on any prior educational loans

Have scored a minimum of 20 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state aid eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Exhibit satisfactory academic progress as established by the institution

Be in good standing on any prior educational loans

Demonstrate need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Document an average family adjusted gross income of $36,500 or less over the prior two years. A higher average adjusted gross income may be applicable depending on family demographics.

Continue to maintain Mississippi residency. At least one parent of a dependent student must maintain Mississippi residency for the student to continue to receive the HELP grant.

Maintain a 2.5 cumulative college grade point average throughout the normal time required to complete a degree program curriculum. For purposes of HELP, the normal time will be determined by when the student began the degree curriculum.

Renew the application each year by completing online web application, including having a valid student aid report (SAR) by completing the FAFSA and all supporting documents on file by April 30th. Award letters will be mailed after confirmation (by attending institution) of hours earned (must be full-time in undergraduate course work) and college grade point average at the end of the spring semester. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours.

Awarding priorities

The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid (MOSFA) will make these awards on a first come, first-served basis; however, priority is given to renewal applicants who complete the renewal process by the deadline.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

Tuition and required fees for no more than ten (10) semesters at a public institution. Participants attending a private institution will receive an award amount equal to the award of a student attending the nearest comparable public institution. A recipient may receive this scholarship while pursing a first baccalaureate degree, not to exceed ten (10) semesters or fifteen (15) trimesters.

 

Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers & Firemen Scholarship

Available to the student who:

Is the spouse or dependent child of a full-time law officer or full-time firemen who was fatally injured or totally disabled from injuries which occurred while performing official duties who was a Mississippi resident at the time of death or injury

Meets the satisfactory academic standards for admission to a public university or community college in Mississippi

Is a full-time student at a Mississippi public college or university

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Exhibit satisfactory academic progress as established by the institution throughout the normal time required to complete the degree curriculum. For purposes of this program, the normal time required will be determined by when the student began the approved degree program

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

Tuition, required fees and the average cost of campus housing at a public university or community college. Eligibility for funds cannot exceed eight (8) semesters or the normal time required to complete the degree curriculum for the individual student, whichever comes first.

 

Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP).

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program. Additional information will be provided before any award is finalized.

Application Deadline: Established by the individual school.

Application Process: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Available to the student who:

Is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen

Is a Mississippi resident

Applies for federal aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Demonstrates need as determined by the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Is enrolled as a regular full-time student at a Mississippi college or university

Has a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent

Renewal

Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG).

In 1995 the Mississippi Legislature established the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG) which offers financial aid assistance to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. The primary objective of the MESG is to provide educational opportunities for students who wish to pursue post secondary education in the state.

Application Deadline: September 15th

Available to the student who:

Meets all eligibility requirements by the designated deadline date

Is a freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior. Students working on a second vocational certificate, second associate's degree, second bachelor's degree, graduate degree or professional degree are not eligible.

Is a resident of Mississippi for one year prior to enrollment in college and provide MESG supporting documents

Is accepted and enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work at one eligible Mississippi college or university. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours.

Completes the online web application and has all supporting documents on file with the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid by the deadline date of September 15

High School senior applicants must meet the general requirements above and these academic requirements:

Have achieved a minimum cumulative 3.5 high school grade point average on a 4.00 scale after a minimum of seven semesters.

Have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

A minimum score of 1280 on the SAT I test may be substituted for the minimum of 29 on ACT.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

Home School applicants with less than 12 college hours must meet the general requirements above and these academic requirements:

Submit a home school transcript showing the course work that corresponds to that of a high school graduate for the ninth through twelfth grades.

Have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

A minimum score of 1280 on the SAT I test may be substituted for the minimum of 29 on ACT.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

Other first-time applicants

Students that have completed 12 or more college hours must meet the general requirements above and these additional academic requirements:

Have graduated from high school or completed home school program within the immediate past three years

Have achieved a minimum cumulative 3.5 high school grade point average on a 4.00 scale after a minimum of seven semesters.

Have achieved a minimum cumulative 3.5 college grade point average as reported by the instititution you last attended or reflected on an official transcript from the last institution you attended.

Have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT prior to completing high school or the home school equivalent. ACT tests taken after enrolling as a full-time college student are not acceptable. ACT tests taken the summer immediately following high school completion will be accepted. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only scores accepted for state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

A minimum score of 1280 on the SAT I test may be substituted for the minimum of 29 on ACT. SAT I test must have been taken prior to completing high school or the home school equivalent. SAT I tests taken the summer immediately following high school completion will be accepted. SAT I tests taken after enrolling as a full-time college student are not acceptable.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

A semi-finalist or finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship competition is not required to have scored a minimum of 29 on the ACT.

Renewal

All continuing participants must meet the general requirements above and the following additional requirements:

Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.5 college grade point average evaluated annually after spring semester of academic year based on grades received electronically from your institution

Exhibit satisfactory academic progress as established by the institution. No student may receive an MESG for longer than the eight (8) semesters or twelve (12) trimesters or the normal time required to complete one certificate, one associate degree or one bachelors degree, whichever comes first.

Renew the application by completing online web application each year and submit any supporting documents requested by the deadline date.

Continue to maintain Mississippi residency. At least one parent of a dependent student must continue to maintain Mississippi residency for student to continue to receive the MESG grant.

Have maintained continuous full-time enrollment in undergraduate course work each semester. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours. A student that enrolls for a minimum of 12 undergraduate semester hours or 9 undergraduate trimester hours and receives MESG then later withdraws or drops one or more courses does not meet this continuous full-time enrollment requirement; even if, their college considered the student full-time for the semester.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

MESG awards may be up to $2,500.00 per academic year, but may not exceed tuition and required fees. Funds will be made available to eligible participants for eight (8) semesters or the normal time required to complete the degree program, whichever comes first.

 

Mississippi Resident Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG).

In 1995 the Mississippi Legislature established the Mississippi Resident Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) which offers financial aid assistance to Mississippi residents attending state approved public and nonprofit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. The primary objective of the MTAG is to provide educational opportunities for students who wish to pursue post secondary education in the state.

Application Deadline: September 15th

Available to the student who:

Meets all eligibility requirements by the designated deadline date
 
Is a freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior. Students working on a second vocational certificate, second associate's degree, second bachelor's degree, graduate degree or professional degree are not eligible.

Is a resident of Mississippi for one year prior to enrollment in college and provides MTAG supporting documents

Is accepted and enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work at one eligible Mississippi college or university. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours.

Receives less than the full Federal Pell Grant as determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our office uses the latest version of the results of the process FAFSA to determine an applicant's Pell Grant eligibility.

Does not receive any combination of student financial aid, including MTAG, in excess of cost of attendance or financial need as established by the institution

Completes the online web application and has all supporting documents on file with the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid by the deadline date of September 15th

High School senior applicants must meet the general requirements listed above and these academic requirements:

Have achieved a cumulative 2.5 high school grade point average on a 4.00 scale after a minimum of seven semesters

Have scored a minimum of 15 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable.

A minimum score of 720 on the SAT I test may be substituted for the ACT test score.

Home School applicants with less than 12 college hours must meet the general requirements listed above and these academic requirements:

All continuing participants must meet the general requirements listed above and the following additional requirements:

Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA evaluated after each semester based on grades received electronically from your institution

Exhibit satisfactory academic progress as established by the institution. No student may receive MTAG for longer than eight (8) semesters or twelve (12) trimesters or the normal time required to complete one certificate, one associate degree or one bachelors degree; whichever comes first.

Renew the application by completing the online web application each year and submit any supporting documents requested by the deadline date

Continue to maintain Mississippi residency. At least one parent of a dependent student must continue to maintain Mississippi residency for student to remain eligible for the MTAG program

Have maintained continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment each semester. Full-time enrollment is defined as the completion of twelve semesters credit hours or nine trimester credit hours of undergraduate course work. Audits are not counted as enrolled or completed hours. A student that enrolls for a minimum of 12 undergraduate semester hours or 9 undergraduate trimester hours and receives MTAG then later withdraws or drops one or more courses does not meet this continuous full-time enrollment requirement; even if, their college considered the student full-time for the semester.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

MTAG awards may be up to $500.00 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores and $1,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors. Funds will be made available to eligible participants for eight (8) semesters or the normal time required to complete the degree program, whichever comes first. MTAG awards are subject to pro-ration which means that award amounts may be less than the amounts stated above.

 

Nissan North America, Inc Scholarship

Nissan North America, Inc provides scholarship funds for applicants that will attend a public two-year college or public four-year college.

Application Deadline: March 1st

High School senior applicants must:

Complete the On-line web application prior to March 1st deadline

Be graduating from a Mississippi high school in 2007

Have achieved a minimum cumulative 2.5 high school grade point average on a 4.00 scale after a minimum of seven semesters.

Have scored a minimum of 20 on the ACT. Scores resulting from the national testing of the ACT are the only accepted scores for state eligibility. Residual test scores are not acceptable. A minimum score of 940 on the SAT I test may be substituted for the minimum of 20 on ACT.

Be accepted for enrollment as a full-time student at a Mississippi public community college or university

Be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi

Demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in extra-curricular activities

Demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It takes approximately 4-6 weeks for a paper FAFSA application to be received and may take as little as two weeks if completed on-line at FAFSA on the web.

Write an essay (200 words maximum) on the topic:

Renewal

A Nissan scholar is eligible to continue on the program if he or she:

Reapplies each year by completing the On-line web application

Attains a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale at the end of each semester/quarter/trimester

Displays leadership skills through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

Demonstrates satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of a degree including continuous full-time enrollment

Continue to maintain Mississippi residency. At least one parent of a dependent student must continue to maintain Mississippi residency for student to continue to receive the Nissan Scholarship.

Maintains good standing at the college or university

Selection Process

There will be a Nissan Scholarship Selection Committee appointed each year. Selection of new scholarship recipients will be based on the following criteria and scoring percentages:

    a.  Academic achievement (50%)
    c.  Extracurricular activities/work/leadership/community involvement (15%)
    d.  Quality of applicant’s signed maximum 200-word essay (15%)
    e.  Demonstrated financial need (20%)

Award Amount

Contingent on availability of funds, the Nissan Scholarship Selection Committee will determine the number of Nissan scholarships to be awarded annually. Each scholarship will be an amount that pays full tuition, required fees and a book allowance.

Scholarship Length
 
The length of the scholarship varies depending upon the certificate or degree the student pursues. This scholarship can be awarded up to a maximum of two years of undergraduate work at a public two-year college and up to five years of undergraduate work at a public four-year university. If a student receives the Nissan scholarship for two years at a public two-year college, they will be eligible for up to a maximum of three years undergraduate work at a public four-year university.

 

Mississippi Public Management Graduate Intern Program.

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program. Additional information will be provided with the application.

Application Deadline: OPEN

Available to the student who:
 
Is enrolled as a graduate student in either Public Administration, Public Policy and Administration or Criminal Justice Administration at one of the following universities: Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi or University of Southern Mississippi

Has achieved a grade point average of 3.0

Is a permanent U.S. resident or possesses a green-card

Has not defaulted on an educational loan

Has entered into an Intern Agreement with the Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning

Has registered for the internship course on their respective campus during the semester in which they intern

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

The stipend may be made in any amount not to exceed $1,000 per month plus one percent fringe benefits and not to exceed eight (8) months.

 

Summer Developmental Program Grant (SDPG).

Funds are now available for high school graduates attending the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program.

Application Deadline: July 21st

Available to the student who meet these general requirements:

Meets all eligibility requirements by the designated deadline date

Is a resident of Mississippi for one year prior to enrollment in college and provides SDPG supporting documents.

Must be under 21 years of age as of deadline date.

Must have attempted less than 24 college hours.

Be accepted as a first time attendee of the Summer Developmental Program at an eligible Mississippi institution.

Not be in default on a federal or state educational loan or owe a repayment on a federal or state grant.

Meet general eligibility admission requirements into the Mississippi Summer Developmental Program and be eligible to receive student financial aid.

Completes the online web application and has all supporting documents on file with the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid.

Completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The results of the FAFSA must be received by July 31st. The applicant is encouraged to complete both the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 FAFSA.

Demonstrates financial need after all other grant/gift aid is awarded.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

SDPG awards may be up to remaining financial aid need as determined by your institution.

 

Counseling and School Administration Loan/Scholarship (CSA)

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program.

Application Deadline: March 31st

Available to the student who:

Is currently under contract as a full-time classroom or specific subject area teacher in an accredited public school (K-12) in Mississippi.

Is fully admitted (not provisionally or conditionally) into Counseling or School Administation as a regular student in a graduate school of education at an approved Mississippi college or university.

Holds a valid Class "A" Mississippi Educator's License.

Is a legal resident of Mississippi.

Is seeking a first master's degree and a class "AA" educator's license.

Agrees to remain employed as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school in the State of Mississippi throughout the normal time required to complete the degree program.

Completes the online web application and submit supporting documents required.

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Meet the satisfactory academic progress standards of the institution throughout the normal time required to complete the approved degree curriculum. For purposes of the CSA program, the normal time required will also be determined by when the student began the degree curriculum and the number of remaining hours for degree completion.

Renew the application each year by completing our online web application and provide any supporting documentation requested.

Continue employment as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school in Mississippi.

Remain in a program of study leading to a Class "AA" teacher educator's license.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

Reimbursement of earned graduate hours, not to exceed the required hours for the approved program of study.

Not less than $125.00 per earned graduate credit hour and not to exceed 12 earned hours per period of enrollment.

Reimbursement will occur approximately 30 days after the end of each period of enrollment and only to the institution from which your degree will be granted. Students taking classes at another institution are not eligible for reimbursement for those classes.

Student is responsible for all financial arrangements with the school until such time as payment is made. Student is responsible for financial arrangements prior to reimbursement which may affect the student's ability to secure school records.

Student assumes all responsibility for returning any portion of a refund by the school which is later determined to be inconsistent with the number of hours reported by the school. Failure to return funds will result in the suspension of eligibility.
 
The deadlines to submit official transcripts to correct late or incomplete grades for reimbursement are as follows:

Service Obligations
 
One year service as a full-time certified classroom teacher in an accredited Mississippi public school (K-12). Service will be concurrent with receipt of the scholarship. Upon completion of program, recipient agrees to render service as a counselor or school administrator in an accredited Mississippi public school (K-12) for one FULL academic year following degree completion. CSA recipients may be granted one year grace period to complete other licensure requirements which must be pre-approved.
 
Recipients who do not serve as a full-time classroom or specific subject area teacher while receiving funds must repay the full amount of all loans received within thirty days of notification.

Recipients who do not complete a Master's degree in counseling/school administration or who do not maintain proper employment while receiving funds must repay the full amount of all loans within thirty days of notification.
 
Recipients who do not secure employment in the appropriate field in the year following the completion of their degree must repay the full amount of all loans within thirty days of notification.

Applicants for CSA should not apply for GTS.

Other Important Information

Undergraduate and continuing education courses will not be reimbursed.

 

Critical Needs Alternative Route Teacher Loan/Scholarship Program (CNAR)

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program.

Document Deadline (excludes college transcripts): March 31st

Interested non-Mississippi residents may apply, but must be fully admitted as a regular student to a four year college or university in Mississippi.

Available to the student who:

Is a junior or senior student at a four year Mississippi college or university.

Agrees to employment immediately upon degree completion as a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school located in a critical teacher shortage area or in a subject shortage area.

Enrolls in a program of study leading to an Alternative Route teacher license and is seeking a first bachelor's degree.
 
Passes Praxis I (reading, writing, and math).

Participates in Entrance Counseling.

Enrolls full-time or part-time (minimum of six hours) in undergraduate course work.

Has a cumulative 2.5 college GPA.

Completes the Online Web Application and submits all support documents by the deadline.

Submits signed and initialed copy of CNAR Rules & Regulations.

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Participate in Entrance Counseling.

Submit signed and initialed copy of CNAR Rules & Regulations.
 
Maintain a cumulative 2.5 college grade point average, maintain the enrollment status as awarded (full-time or part-time undergraduate), and remain in a program of study leading to an Alternative Route teacher license, making satisfactory academic progress.

Teaching commitment

The loan to service obligation is discharged on the basis of one year's service for one year of loan received. Teaching service is defined as being employed as a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school located in a critical teacher shortage area or in a subject shortage area.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility

Tuition and required fees plus average cost of room and meals plus an allowance for books. Funds are not provided for out-of-state tuition or for summer school costs. Participants attending a private institution will receive an award amount equal to the award of a student attending the nearest comparable public institution. Funds are provided for undergraduate course work towards a first bachelor's degree only, not for course work required after degree completion.

Other Important Information

CNAR recipients are not eligible to receive other state grant funds.

Applicants for CNAR cannot apply for WWTS and WWAR. Funds are mailed directly to the school approximately two (2) weeks after a completed contract has been received by the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid.

Maximum eligibility is two (2) years/four (4) semesters for full-time awards.

Funds awarded provides for room and board.

The CNAR award is the same if the recipient lives on or off campus. Applicants must mail in to the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid a copy of their passing Praxis I scores (reading, writing, math) as the Mississippi Department of Education automatically receives Praxis I scores, not the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid.

 

Critical Needs Teacher Loan/Scholarship Program (CNTP)

The program requirements listed below should not be considered as the only requirements for participation in this program.

Interested non-Mississippi residents may apply, but must be fully admitted as a regular student to a four year college or university in Mississippi.

Available to the student who:

Is a junior or senior student at a four year Mississippi college or university.

Agrees to employment immediately upon degree completion as a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school located in a critical teacher shortage area or in a subject shortage area.

Enrolls in a program of study leading to a Class 'A' teacher educator license.
 
Passes Praxis I or has a minimum composite score of 21 or higher ACT (national testing) with a minimum of 18 on all sub-scores on the same national test taken prior to enrollment into higher education.

Participates in Entrance Counseling.

Enrolls full-time or part-time undergraduate course work (minimum of six hours).

Has a cumulative 2.5 college GPA.

Completes the online web application and submits all support documents by the deadline.
 
Submits signed and initialed copy of CNTP Rules & Regulations.

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Maintain a cumulative 2.5 college grade point average, maintain the enrollment status as awarded (full-time or part-time undergraduate), and remain in a program of study leading to a Class 'A' teacher educator license, making satisfactory academic progress.

Teaching commitment

The loan to service obligation is discharged on the basis of one year's service for one year of loan received. Teaching service is defined as being employed as a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school located in a critical teacher shortage area or in a subject shortage area.

The actual amount shall be determined by the UMMC Office of Financial Aid and may be up to full cost of attendance as established by the Financial Aid Office at the UMMC each year, not to exceed four years.

Graduate Teacher Loan/Scholarship (GTS)

Available to the student who:

Is currently under contract as a full-time classroom or specific subject area teacher in an accredited public school (K-12) in Mississippi.
 
Is fully admitted (not provisionally or conditionally) as a regular student in a graduate school of education at an approved Mississippi college or university.
 
Holds a valid Class "A" Mississippi Educator's License.
 
Is a resident of Mississippi as verified by the submission of residency documentation.

Is seeking a first master's degree and a class "AA" educator's license.
 
Agrees to remain employed as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school in the State of Mississippi throughout the normal time required to complete the degree program.
 
Completes the online web application and submit supporting documents required.

Renewal

All continuing participants must:

Meet the satisfactory academic progress standards of the institution throughout the normal time required to complete the approved degree curriculum. For purposes of the GTS program, the normal time required will also be determined by when the student began the degree curriculum and the number of remaining hours for degree completion.

Continue employment as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school (K-12) in Mississippi.

Remain in a program of study leading to a Class "AA" teacher educator's license.

Award Amount and Length of Eligibility
 
Reimbursement of earned graduate hours, not to exceed the required hours for the approved program of study.

Not less than $125.00 per earned graduate credit hour and not to exceed 12 earned hours per period of enrollment (semester or trimester).

Reimbursement will occur approximately 30 days after the end of each period of enrollment and only to the institution from which your degree will be granted. Students taking classes at another institution are not eligible for reimbursement for those classes.
 
Student is responsible for all financial arrangements with the school until such time as payment is made. Student is responsible for financial arrangements prior to reimbursement which may affect the student's ability to secure school records.

Student assumes all responsibility for returning any portion of a refund by the school which is later determined to be inconsistent with the number of hours reported by the school. Failure to return funds will result in the suspension of eligibility.
 
The deadlines to submit official transcripts to correct late or incomplete grades for reimbursement are as follows:

Service Obligations

One year service as a full-time certified classroom teacher in an accredited Mississippi public school (K-12). Service will be concurrent with receipt of the scholarship and for one FULL academic year following degree completion.

Recipients who do not serve as a full-time classroom or specific subject area teacher while receiving funds must repay the full amount of all loans received within thirty days of notification
 
Applicants for CSA should not apply for GTS.

Health Care Professions Loan/Scholarship

Undergraduate participants are eligible to receive up to $1,500 per year, not to exceed two (2) years or an aggregate of $3,000, whichever comes first.Graduate participants majoring in physical therapy are eligible to receive up to $3,000 per year, not to exceed two (2) years or an aggregate of $6,000, whichever comes first.Graduate participants majoring in occupational therapy are eligible to receive up to $3,000 for one year.
