The following are financial aid programs available to students who are residents of the state of Georgia.
HOPE Scholarship Program
HOPE — Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally — is Georgia's unique scholarship and grant program that rewards students with financial assistance in degree, diploma, and certificate programs at eligible Georgia public and private colleges and universities, and public technical colleges. HOPE is funded entirely by the Georgia Lottery for Education, which also funds Georgia's statewide prekindergarten program. Since the HOPE Program began in 1993, over $3.5 billion in HOPE funds have been awarded to more than 1 million students attending Georgia's colleges, universities, and technical colleges. You can benefit from HOPE in several ways.
Georgia's HOPE Scholarship is available to Georgia residents who have demonstrated academic achievement throughout high school and/or while in college. The scholarship provides funds to address many of the costs associated with tuition, fees and books for students who are pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in Georgia's colleges and universities.
Eligibility
To receive HOPE Scholarship funding, students must:
- Have graduated from an eligible high school with a "B" average, as defined by the HOPE program, or have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average at the college level at specific credit-hour checkpoints.
- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at an eligible public or private college or university or technical college in Georgia.
- Meet HOPE's Georgia residency requirements.
- Meet HOPE's U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen requirements.
- Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements.

- Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the college.
Changes to HOPE Eligibility Requirements Effective May 2007

Funding provided to HOPE scholars varies by type of institution.
Public Institutions
Students attending public institutions receive an award for the following:
- Tuition for number of hours enrolled whether full-time or part-time
- HOPE-approved mandatory fees
- Books allowance of up to $100 per quarter or $150 per semester
Private Institutions
Students attending private institutions receive the following:
- Full-time students: $1500 per semester, $1000 per quarter
- Half-time students: $750 per semester, $500 per quarter

- Received payment from any combination of HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant, and Accel Program funds totaling 127 semester (190 quarter) hours of credit; or
- Attempted 127 semester (190 quarter) hours of college degree credit, regardless of whether or not HOPE funds were received while attempting the hours; or
- Has earned a baccalaureate (four-year) college degree, regardless of whether or not HOPE funds were received while earning the degree.
College hours and grades attempted prior to high school graduation are not used in calculating your total attempted hours and cumulative grade point average to renew HOPE. However, credit hours for which you received payment from the HOPE Grant and the Accel Program will be included in the maximum number of hours you can receive the HOPE Scholarship.
Applying for the HOPE Scholarship
Applying for the HOPE Scholarship is easy, but the steps you must follow depend upon the type of institution you plan to attend. To be considered for HOPE, there is a state application process and in some cases, a college level process. Below are the state level options. Some colleges and technical colleges also require the student to complete a school-specific financial aid application. Contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend.
Public Colleges, Universities, and Technical Colleges
Students planning to attend a public college, university, or technical college have two options for applying for the HOPE Scholarship. Please note that you only have to choose one of these options to apply for the HOPE Scholarship.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - If you wish to be considered for financial aid other than HOPE (i.e. Pell Grant, Student Loans) you should complete the FAFSA. If you complete a FAFSA, there are no other forms required to make application for the HOPE Scholarship (unless there are forms specific to your school). By using your GAcollege411 account (My411), and accessing the FAFSA application from GAcollege411, you can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete this form.
- Complete the HOPE/TEG Application
Private Colleges & Universities
Students planning to attend an eligible private college or university must complete the HOPE/TEG application to be considered for the HOPE Scholarship.
Application Deadline
While you have until the last day of classes or exams to submit your application in order to receive HOPE funds for that semester or quarter, we highly recommend submitting your HOPE application as early as possible. The earlier you apply, the earlier the funds are disbursed to your school and credited to your account.
If you withdraw from school during a semester or quarter, you must file an application prior to your withdrawal date. Contact the financial aid office at your college for additional information regarding the HOPE application process and deadline dates.
